Leathers we use

Leathers we use

We have an ethical approach when choosing our leather and won’t use cheap imports from China or India were it is possible that some animals may have suffered during the process of the leather making. Most of our leather used is Veg Tan cowhide a bi-product of the food industry.
Veg Tan leather is made using natural sources to treat the leather like Oak tree bark chippings, where as Chrome Tan Leather used man made chemicals.

All items are assembled in our own workshop in the UK.
Where possible we will not use harsh chemicals to finish or coat our items but prefer to use Natural Bees wax and Coconut Oils.
Whilst we live in a through away world, a Real Leather collar will last longer than a Faux, PVC or Vegan Leather collar making less waste for the environment.

All our collars now come in recycled gift boxes.
The cardboard box is made from 100% recycled card and the paper covering is made partly from recycled material, the remainder being from sustainable forests.

Types of Leather we use

Full Grain Bridle Veg Tan Leather – Full grain leather burnishes and ages beautifully with use, may have some natural markings or scaring. The best quality.

Split Veg Tan Leather – This is the leather underneath full grain leather. Thick hides are split into two or more pieces and a pattern is laid on top of split leather, not as soft as Full Grain Bridle Leather but still real leather

Italian Veg Tan Bridle Leather – Italian’s are renowned for their processing of quality Leather goods and have been making leather for centuries.

Our Recycled Leather Range – These leather pieces come from many different sources, from basic off cuts from the leather suppliers to refurbished leather off cuts and can be both Veg tan & Chrome tan leather dependent on the source. We use this type of leather for our recycled range and items are in limited quantities according to the off cut sizes. Many are non repeatable.
We decided to introduce this range as we hate waste, so have found a use for pieces of leather that would have otherwise ended up in the waste bin and you receive a unique and stylish product.

Faux, PU, etc. – We do NOT use these materials as they are not real leather and can in some cases include nasty chemicals, they are not a natural product but man made.

Leather Care Guide

When new our collars are treated with a bees wax coating to help protect it from the rain, if you take good care of your leather product, it will age beautifully and last a long time.

If your item should get wet, refrain from using excessive amounts of heat as this can alter the leather’s properties. This will show in the form of discolorations and may even shrink. A clean dry cloth and natural drying would be much better.

If you leather starts to get too dry and stiff you can use a leather cream on it too help restore it

PLEASE don’t detergents or chemicals on your Leather items.
